Up to $2 billion worth of rare wildlife species, particularly parrots, are illegally smuggled every year from the Brazilian forests. Geneticist have finally stood up to investigate against smuggling through ribosomal sequencing which would help the police in bird identification.

Scientists are eager to develop single shot universal flu vaccine that will provide lifetime protection. By targeting the stem of haemagglutinin protein, rather than the head portion, experts have created a molecule that can readily trigger the immune system of animals. Tests are undergoing on mice models but, it’s quite a challenging procedure requiring years of research to actually create a universal vaccine.
